For those photographers seeking comfort, OP/TECH USA offers the Tripod Leg Wraps. Each leg is individually wrapped to protect the legs against damage and to give you added comfort against shoulder fatigue.
For those photographers or outdoor enthusiasts seeking comfort in an alternative carrying system, OP/TECH USA offers the Tripod Leg Wraps™. Each leg is individually wrapped to protect the legs against damage and to give you added comfort against shoulder fatigue. It also keeps the cold metal legs "under wraps" and away from your skin. First, apply the closed-cell foam pads to the legs. These are held firmly in place with a strip of low-tack tape which secures the wraps without leaving a sticky residue. Second, the durable Cordura® leggings are stretched snugly over the foam pads to form a seamless, comfortable fit.
The Tripod Leg Wraps™are available in a 1", 1.25", or 1.5" diameter leg size. The 17" length can be customized to fit the user's tripod by merely cutting the foam pads with a serrated knife (Do not cut the Cordura® leggings). Finally, you can toss your tripod over your shoulder in comfort!

Remove the Cordura® cover from the foam pad by turning the cover inside out while pulling it down and off the foam. Leave about three to five inches doubled over near the end before removing the cover from the foam. If you would like to shorten the length of the foam pad, simply use a serrated bread knife to cut the foam. Do not cut the Cordura® cover. After the covers are replaced on the foam, the excess material can be tucked under the end.
Fig. A: A small roll of low-tack double-sided adhesive tape is located in one of the foam pads in the package. Cut the roll of tape into three pieces of equal length.
Fig. B: In order to prevent the Tripod Leg Wraps™ from rotating on the tripod, apply a piece of the tape to each tripod leg.
Fig. C: Remove the release liner on the tape to expose the adhesive and proceed to the next step. This low-tack tape will not leave a residue on your tripod leg.
Fig. D: Spread the foam open and wrap it around the tripod leg with the open seam of the foam toward the inside of the tripod. Press firmly into position then remove the protective strips on the inside seams of the foam and press them together.
Once the foam is in place, the Cordura® cover can be stretched over the foam pad. Pull the cover on the tripod leg with the doubled over end first. Once the doubled over section is on the foam pad, the rest of the cover can be worked up the leg by pulling small sections of the reversed cover at a time. When the cover is stretched over the entire length of the foam pad, the ends should just cover the foam pad.
Repeat procedures for the other two legs.
Tripod Leg Wraps™ can be hand washed in mild detergent and hung to dry. Most dirt and stains can be removed with a damp cloth while the Tripod Leg Wraps™ are attached to the tripod legs.
I've been using these for almost two years. A couple of comments: The covers are some kind of knit material which tends to bunch up and shift up and down; sometimes shifting enough to cover the tripod leg releases. The foam pad has a strip of tape which sticks to the tripod leg. In cold weather the tape doesn't stick so the pad rotates around the leg. It doesn't cause any harm but is disconcerting. And if you ever want to remove the pad and leg wrap the tape is very difficult to remove from the leg. I had to scrape and use "Glue Gone" for about 10 minutes per leg.
The Tripod Leg Wraps only come in black. You do not need to disassemble your tripod to install the Tripod Leg Wraps. If you go to the product page, click on the "Instructions" tab, and download the Instruction Sheet, you can see how they are installed.
