  • Comfortably carry heavy equipment for extended periods of time with the internal control-stretch system and Lycra® binding
  • Evenly distributes weight with its curved neoprene pad
  • Non-skid surface keeps the strap securely on your shoulder
  • Attaches to strap connection points on the camera body, where the body is designed to carry the load, so no stress is put on your camera housing or lens mount area
  • Leaves the tripod mount free for use
  • Convertible to right shoulder use with the addition of the System Connectors - Gender Changers
  • Made in the USA

The Utility Strap™ - Sling offers rapid access to your camera or binoculars while maintaining the security of a strap worn across the shoulder. The Utility Strap™ - Sling comes with two of OP/TECH USA’s  Uni-Loop System Connectors. Most cameras will only need one, but for cameras with a third strap-connection point or when used with a battery grip, the second Uni-Loop will be used. Your gear hangs securely at your side and will glide up and down the sling without interfering with a camera's tripod connection. The neoprene, internal elastic and non-skid surface are bonded together to form a comfortable, durable strap. OP/TECH USA’s quick disconnects (QDs) are rated at 146 pounds tensile strength, so you know your gear is secure.

Combine the Utility Strap™ - Sling with other OP/TECH USA products for even more possibilities.

  • Create a safety lanyard for your camera on the Utility Strap™ - Sling with the use of the System Connectors - Extensions (sold separately)

For added peace of mind for those photographers who would normally only have one connection point, you can attach your camera to the sling by two points with the use of an Extension System Connector (sold separately as a set of two). One Extension piece would be attached to the back quick disconnect on the sling and connect over to the Uni-Loop attached to the left side of the camera. When you raise your camera to the shooting position, the Extension lanyard will be out of the viewing area. The complete set of Extensions can also be used to transform the Utility Strap™ - Sling into a regular neck/shoulder strap. As a result, you get two straps in one with this easy conversion.

  • Switch the Utility Strap™ - Sling to a neck strap with a set of System Connectors - Extensions (sold separately)

With OP/TECH USA's Extensions System Connectors, it's easy to switch from a sling setup to a neck/shoulder strap. Simply remove the sling connection from the neoprene pad and attach the Extensions to each side. It's now long enough to comfortably connect to the Uni-Loops attached to your camera.

  • Wear the Utility Strap™ - Sling on your right shoulder with a set of System Connectors - Gender Changers (sold separately)

With the addition of the Gender Changers System Connectors (sold separately), you can switch the configuration of the strap to work on your right shoulder so that all of the sling hardware is in the proper position for ease of use and mobility.

  • While actively moving around with your Utility Strap™ - Sling, secure your camera to your side with the second Uni-Loop System Connector

Attach the second Uni-Loop System Connector to your belt loop which can then be connected to the Utility Strap™ - Sling's second quick disconnect. Move freely while hiking, biking or navigating busy streets and keep your camera securely attached at your side.

  • When shooting with a larger lens, reduce stress on your camera's lens mount with System Connectors - Lens Loops (sold separately)

Support the weight of a heavy lens with the Lens Loops System Connectors (sold separately). The Lens Loops protect your camera's lens mount from the added weight and stress of a heavy lens while positioning the lens comfortably at your side.

  • Protect your camera while attached to the Utility Strap™ - Sling with a neoprene Soft Pouch (sold separately)

Protect your camera from bumps, moisture and dust while in the field with a neoprene Soft Pouch (sold separately). It remains snuggly on the camera as you wear the Utility Strap™ - Sling and can be quickly removed so that you never miss a shot. Available in a wide variety of styles and sizes to fit almost any camera. Check out our Product Finder to find the pouch that fits your camera.

How to Attach a Utility Strap™ - Sling to your Camera

Uni-Loop System Connector

1. Thread male Uni-Loop through connection point on right side of camera.2. Thread quick disconnect through opening of Uni-Loop.3. Pull quick disconnect to tighten knot.

4. Attach the Uni-Loop connector to the corresponding quick disconnect on the sling. The second Uni-Loop connector is only used on cameras with a second connection area located on the right side (not top) or on a Pro Battery Grip. Most cameras will only use one connection.

5. Place the strap pad over the left shoulder. The triglide on the back adjusts the sling to the appropriate length. The second triglide can be positioned to act as a stop to prevent your camera from sliding too far back on the sling.

Great for someone who prefers a cross-body strap instead of a neck strap review by Kate

I could not stand wearing the camera neck strap that came with my heavy Canon Rebel T3i. As a woman, I looked for a sling-style strap that I could wear cross-body similar to how I carry my purse. Not only does this strap let you carry your camera at your side with a cross-body design, but it does a very wonderful job of distributing the weight, thanks to its wide shoulder pad. No itching, no strap digging into my skin, and my camera with a heavy lens attached can come with me all day long. Love it! (posted on 10/29/14)

I found that the strap works best if the camera is connected to the left lug, not the right. I tried it out first as instructed, but soon switched it to the other side. I've used this with a Canon 7D and an Olympus OMD and it has functioned perfectly for almost two years. So much more comfortable than the usual neck strap. And, with the quick release, I can connect an Op-Tech wrist strap to the right lug and unclip the camera for off-strap use and on a tripod. Really a great system. Far superior to a neck strap! Janyce and Charlie,in their reviews, spoke of the same issue that I have with this strap... portrait orientation is difficult due to the strap crossing the viewfinder. Although I have other Op/Tech straps and mounting options (for standard around the neck wear), I REALLY would like to see this work regardless of how a person holds the camera. Thanks for listening.... (posted on 8/30/12)

This strap works great once I attached the quick release to the left camera lug. Vertical shots were impossible with the quick release on the right side. I have a quick release on my 70-200 and you would never know you're carrying almost 6lbs of gear. (posted on 6/11/12)

Overall seems like a good product but I was concerned by two things. The first was that the camera tends to swing excessively when at my side because of the single attachment point. The second was an irrational (?) fear that there is a single point of failure with this strap which may be illogical but doesn't inspire confidence. (posted on 6/4/12)

I love this strap for its comfort, durability and convenience. Ur agree with an earlier post that it is not good for vertical shooting I'm still happy with it but still trying to figure out some way to hold it vertically so strap is not in front of viewfinder. Hopefully optech comes up with a solution that does not require buying a new strap (posted on 6/3/12)

I previously used an Optech neck strap as a shoulder strap. I bought this as soon as I found it. We like the Optech neck strap (my wife likes neck straps better). This is much more comfortable, due to the edge binding. The strap should be available in more configurations, including alone. Also, there should be a non-neoprene version for warm weather. I bought the UNI ADAPTOR LOOP in order to convert this into a neck strap. (posted on 2/9/12)

My first Optech Pro Strap was bought 20 yrs ago. After several upgrade of cameras, I was still using it. I gave the pro strap to my son as I bought the utility sling set which I have been looking for since last yr. I followed the video instruction on the connection of one uni-loop only. The functionality I felt disappointed was the when I positioned my Canon 7D camera (without battery grip) for vertical shot the strap partially covers the view finder and LCD. After several strap adjustments it was still the same. I experimented with using and attaching the left connection point of camera and it was no longer covering the view finder and LCD when shooting vertically. However, when not shooting the camera is positioned ackwardly on my right side as the starndard camera grip is down on my side. Maybe you can think of something to correct this. Or maybe it was improper usage.

I saw one of these in use quite some time ago and the person using it didn't seem affected by the weight or the position of his camera, w/grip, so last week I finally ordered one. It's one of the most comfortable and simple accessories you can have. I barely notice my Pentax K20D hangin' at my side and wish I had bought one sooner (I've gotta agree about having a lock mechanism of some kind on the strap would be a good idea). Along with their camera harness and "made in USA" the Utility Sling is another great product from OP/TECH. (posted on 1/9/12)

Five stars across the board.... At first I had my doubts, but for the price I could not go wrong! I fumbled around with it at first, but once I had it adjusted properly, WOW! Makes my camera rig feel like nothing. Camera sits well when walking. Only thing I would do is make a larger one for larger guys like me! (posted on 9/26/11)
What A Difference review by Fran

What a difference from the rough strap that came with my camera! The guy from the camera shop where I bought mine put it on wrong, and I almost returned it. The assembly instructions that come with the strap referred to the video and that made it all so easy! Love having so much accessibility to my camera without having it swinging around in front of me.
One thing that could stand improvement is that the connector's release offers a very easy opportunity for theft, which is why I give construction quality 4 stars. A cover or lock design for the release would help to resolve that vulnerability.

Ok, now I have watched the video... which totally explains the strap. Wow... glad I came to the web site. This is a great strap once you know what you are doing. Hopefully the company will inform people to go look at the video somewhere in the instructions. Great product. (posted on 3/8/11)

Question:

Do you have any type of "Gender Changer" adapters, so that the entire strap system can be reversed and worn on the left? This strap seems designed to be worn on the right side, so that the plastic slip part sits in the rear...to prevent the camera from sliding too far back. However, I want to carry the camera on the left side, so everything needs to be reversed..and the plastic parts don't work that way.

Answer:

Yes! We do have System Connectors - Gender Changers that can be used to switch the Utility Strap - Sling to be worn on the right shoulder with your gear hanging at your left side. It’s necessary to use the Gender Changers on the Utility Sling when worn on the right shoulder, so that your camera can still glide freely up and down the sling.

Question:

Does this come with everything shown? I.e. does it include the across the shoulder strap and the strap below or do I connect it to my own camera strap??

Answer:

Yes, the Utility Strap - Sling comes with everything shown. Nothing else needs to be purchased in order to use it.
