The Utility Strap™ offers a streamlined option for carrying small bags, battery packs and much more. The neoprene, internal support foam and non skid surface are bonded together to form a comfortable, durable strap that can make carrying extra gear a joy. It is now available in three versions.

The original Utility Strap™ - Swivel incorporates 3/4" (1,9cm) webbing, quick disconnects and rugged locking swivel clips.

The Utility Strap™ - 3/8" uses 3/8" (9,5mm) connectors and is designed to fit film or digital cameras and binoculars.

The new Utility Strap™ - Sling offers rapid access to your camera or binoculars while maintaining the security of a strap worn across the shoulder. Using OP/TECH USA's exclusive Uni-Loop connectors, your gear hangs securely at your side and will glide up and down the sling without interfering with a camera's tripod connection. Two Uni-Loop connectors (included with strap) allow for use with a pro battery pack and offer even more options for carrying gear.

How to Attach a Utility Strap™ - SLING to your Camera

Uni-Loop System Connector

1. Thread male Uni-Loop through connection point on right side of camera.2. Thread quick disconnect through opening of Uni-Loop.3. Pull quick disconnect to tighten knot.

4. Attach the Uni-Loop connector to the corresponding quick disconnect on the sling. The second Uni-Loop connector is only used on cameras with a second connection area located on the right side (not top) or on a Pro Battery Grip. Most cameras will only use one connection.

5. Place the strap pad over the left shoulder. The triglide on the back adjusts the sling to the appropriate length. The second triglide can be positioned to act as a stop to prevent your camera from sliding too far back on the sling.

Absolutely the best I've used! review by Chris Norman

I work in weddings, events, on location and other disciplines that involve long days, heavy camera bodies, often with 70-200mm lenses and flashes. I'm very fit and capable of doing this work, but for years at the end of the day and the next day my neck would be killing me.
I've used other sling straps which have been good, but the OpTech slings work brilliantly; the grippy neoprene keeps the straps in the right place on my shoulder, and the weight is distributed fantastically as the stretchiness of the material absorbs bounce and shocks. I can quickly detach cameras and lens combinations, and also the tripod mount is left free so I can switch between handheld and tripod mounted quickly.
It's pretty damn perfect! (posted on 3/27/14)

I work in event photography which requires me to carry 2 big heavy cameras for several hours at a time. I just love my Op/Tech utility straps. They are straight forward, sturdy, and uber comfortable. I use them cross style and I find them very easy to get in or out of them. Light years better then the factory "Brag Strap" shipped with most cameras. (posted on 8/1/13)

This is absolutely best strap which you can get. I was looking for it during my stay in USA as I read a lot about it here in EU. After all, I had to order it without seeing it. After I opened the package, I just started to smile as it is GREAT GREAT GREAT piece of equipment. I use it together with “Super Classic Strap - Pro Loop” for a camera and I have to say it is pleasure to carry it. Of course you still feel your heavy camera on your neck but it is nothing comparing to standard strap. I have just spend 7 hours of taking pictures with the camera bag on my shoulder and camera on my neck and I have to say I could continue without problems ;-)
Thank you once again and hope you will keep this standard.

Question:

Am I missing something? Your instructions say to attach the male QD uniloop to the right side of the camera (as seen from the rear). OK, that makes sense: it works with my old neck strap and it works with my old wrist strap. However, it works with the sling ONLY if you use only one QD attachment. I prefer to use both attachments, as a backup and also for camera orientation as it's hanging at my side. So. . . if the QD sliders on the sling were reversed, that would be be possible. Do you, perchance, have a set of gender changers for the disconnects or must I resort to taking the strap apart, swapping the two sliders, and re-sewing it? Or did I miss the boat entirely?

Answer:

The Utility Strap™ - Sling was designed to attach to a camera using only one connection point. The second connection point is for use with a pro battery pack - to connect the first connection to the camera and the second to the battery pack.

Question:
The loop part of the strap connect to the camera strap loop. Can the plastic attachment harness holds a lot of weight, like a Canon 20D with a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and a Canon 580 EXII or a Canon 20D with a Canon 70-200 f/2.8? Or do I need a better strap. I like the sling type of strap since the camera hang on the side and not on front.

Answer:
The Utility Strap™ - Sling can comfortably carry 15 pounds of gear. The first example you gave (Canon 20D with Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens and Canon 580EX II flash) weighs about 2.8 pounds. The plastic quick disconnects are very strong and can support the full 15 pounds of gear. The Utility Strap™ - Sling should work out great for you.

Question:
I already own Pro Strap™ which I think is great but I am considering occasionally using a strap that goes across the shoulder as more secure and easier to walk around in. I came across the OP/TECH Utility Strap™ - Sling. But I have to say I found the web site quite confusing as to how this works and what is required to make it work. I had also wondered if I could use my existing Pro Strap™ with some some additional connector to make it work.

Answer:
The Utility Strap™ - Sling is a strap that goes across the shoulder and has a full non-skid surface on the strap pad. No additional parts are needed for this strap to work. You could also convert your existing Pro Strap™ into an across-the-shoulder strap as well. All you would need to purchase is the Sling Strap Adaptor System Connector.

Question

Do you have any type of "Gender Changer" adapters, so that the entire strap system can be reversed and worn on the left? This strap seems designed to be worn on the right side, so that the plastic slip part sits in the rear...to prevent the camera from sliding too far back. However, I want to carry the camera on the left side, so everything needs to be reversed..and the plastic parts don't work that way.

Answer

Yes! We do have System Connectors - Gender Changers that can be used to switch the Utility Strap™ - Sling to be worn on the right shoulder with your gear hanging at your left side. It’s necessary to use the Gender Changers on the Utility Sling when worn on the right shoulder, so that your camera can still glide freely up and down the sling.

Question:

What is the difference between the pads on the Pro Strap and Utility Strap? From the photos, I can see that the Pro Strap has additional webbing over the pad, but I can't tell how this affects, fit, comfort, etc. Are the pads themselves the same material and thickness? Also, do these pads work best when worn around the neck, over the shoulder, or are they designed for both?

Answer:

The chart on the Find A Strap page can help explain the differences between our straps. Both the Pro Strap and Utility Strap can be worn on the shoulder or the around the neck, and they are both rated at 15 pounds. The Pro Strap has the elastic webbing on top of the neoprene pad, while the Utility Strap has elastic inside the neoprene pad. The edges of the Utility Strap are bound, the Pro Strap are not. The Utility Strap has a non-skid surface on the entire underside of the strap pad, the Pro Strap has non-slip grip dots on the center of the strap pad.
