The BODY CAP twists and locks on to the camera body with a thermoplastic rubber seal which creates a positive contact with the full perimeter of the lens mount area to really lock out dust and moisture.
Question:
I bought the Canon body cap from Amazon. It arrived with no o-ring. I returned it for a replacement. The replacement also has no o-ring. I am confused. The instructions says there is an o-ring. I have several of the lens caps and they all have o-rings. Am I missing something? Without the o-ring it doesn't appear to be any better than the Canon body cap.
Answer:
The Body Cap does not have an O-ring; it has a thermoplastic rubber seal that is molded directly to the cap. If you look at the second picture on this page you can see where the seal is located. The rubber seal grips to the camera body to lock out dust, moisture, etc. The rubber seal is softer than the rest of the Body Cap. You can test this by pushing a pin into the material.
